The Moscow Meshchansky Court sentenced the former Deputy Minister of Energy Anatoly Tikhonov to 5 years 4 months in prison for multi-million dollar theft, RIA Novosti reported . The other six defendants received suspended sentences and fines of up to 80 million rubles. Tikhonov was arrested in September 2020. According to investigators, he organized the theft of over 600 million rubles allocated for the creation of a state information system for the fuel and energy complex (GIS TEK) during the years when he headed the Russian Energy Agency under the Ministry of Energy (2013–2019; then he became Deputy Minister of Energy) . A RIA Novosti source reported that later new episodes appeared in the case: another 100 million rubles. Tikhonov stole during the supply of equipment under two government contracts, the investigation believed. Thus, the total damage exceeded 700 million rubles.
